About this workbook

81-page fillable PDF workbook, full colour, instant download

When worry starts to get in the way for a child, everyday things like school, bedtime, new places and time apart can become a struggle for the whole family. This workbook is for children aged 7 to 12 and the grown-ups who support them, and it gives you a shared way to understand worry and practise small brave steps together.

It has 11 chapters and 30 worksheets, with soft watercolour illustrations throughout. Every page is marked for kids, for grown-ups, or to do together. The activities draw on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and the parts of children's anxiety treatment used most widely, such as calming skills, small brave steps and support from parents.

What this worry workbook for kids covers

The early chapters help children understand what worry is. Kids learn how their busy brain and body react when they feel worried, find words for their feelings, and practise unhooking from sticky thoughts. Grown-ups get plain explanations of how worry works in children and how it can show up in a family.

The middle chapters focus on skills. You practise making room for big feelings and calming down together, and there is a chapter on worries at bedtime.

The later chapters help your child work out what matters to them and climb a brave ladder towards it, one small step at a time. The grown-up pages cover how to support a worried child without taking over, and the final chapter helps you keep brave going once the workbook is finished.

Who this workbook is for

Designed by a registered psychologist. This workbook is for parents, carers and grandparents of children aged roughly 7 to 12 who worry a lot, whether that is about being apart from you, school, friends, new things or bedtime. Younger children can do the kid pages with a grown-up reading aloud and writing for them. No diagnosis and no background in psychology is needed.

Psychologists, counsellors and other practitioners who work with children and families can also use it between sessions, with the clinician licence.

How to use this workbook

Use the Where to Start page to choose your first chapter together, then work through the pages at a pace that suits your child. Type into the pages on a computer or tablet, or print them for your child to draw and write on. If your child sees a psychologist, counsellor or doctor, you can bring pages along to talk through what you have tried.

Choose the personal licence for use within your own family. The clinician licence lets one practitioner print and give copies to the children and families they work with, individually or in groups they run.
