About this workbook

86-page fillable PDF workbook, instant download

Anxiety can show up as constant "what ifs", a body that rarely feels settled, or a list of places and situations you have slowly started to avoid. This workbook takes you through cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for anxiety one step at a time, in the order a psychologist would usually work through it in sessions.

It has 11 chapters and 38 worksheets. Each chapter explains one part of anxiety in everyday language, shows a worked example, then gives you worksheets to apply it to your own life. The exercises draw on CBT, with some skills from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

What this CBT for anxiety workbook covers

The first chapters help you understand your own anxiety. You keep a worry log, learn why anxiety sticks around once it starts, and practise breathing, relaxation and grounding skills to settle your body.

The middle chapters work with anxious thoughts. You use thought records to catch what goes through your mind, learn the most common anxious thinking styles, and practise balancing a thought and testing out a prediction.

The later chapters cover worry and avoidance. You sort practical problems from "what ifs", set up a daily worry time, try small experiments with uncertainty, and build a step-by-step ladder for facing what you have been avoiding. The final chapter helps you put together a plan for staying well.

Who this workbook is for

Designed by a registered psychologist. This workbook is for adults who worry a lot, often feel on edge, or have started avoiding things because of anxiety, including worries about health, money, work, family and what other people think. No background in psychology is needed.

Practitioners who use CBT for anxiety can also give it to clients as a structured program between sessions, with the clinician licence.

How to use this workbook

Start with the Where to Start page to see which chapter to begin with, then work at a pace that suits you. Type your answers into the pages on a computer or tablet, or print the workbook and write by hand. If you see a psychologist, counsellor or doctor, you can bring completed pages to your sessions.

Choose the personal licence for your own use. The clinician licence lets one practitioner print and give copies to their own clients, individually or in groups they run.

What you receive

  • A complete 86-page workbook with 11 chapters and 38 worksheets
  • Two fillable PDF files, one in US Letter and one in A4

  • A page on when to seek more support, with crisis lines and anxiety support services for Australia, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom and Ireland

This workbook is an educational self-help resource. It cannot diagnose an anxiety disorder, and it does not replace individual assessment or treatment. If anxiety follows a traumatic event, comes with rituals you feel you must do, or panic attacks are the main problem, a psychologist or doctor is the best place to start.
